English oak, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Oak is a timber species revered in British culture due to its durability and strength, and its long list of traditional uses in British history. With a beautiful yellow brown heartwood and straight, uniform grain, oak can be used for almost anything - making it one of the most sought after pieces for my workshop.
 
This small box has been hand turned with stright modern sides and finished with a technique called yakisugi, which involves torching, cleaning and sealing the wood to create a texture to the grain and a unique look. Finished with a danish oil blend to highlight the grain. Put together this box measures 5.5cm tall and 6cm wide.
